Movie conventions research: Saw X

Image
. Saw X is a unique installment in the horror genre. Camera angles and movements include high angle shots as a lot of scenes are in the perspective of a security camera. Also eye level shots are used to portray the fear of Jigsaw's victims in the detailed deadly contraptions he calls his "traps".  Zooming in and medium close up shots are also used. Costumes and props are the iconic jigsaw puppet and tricycle, and editing and sound include mostly diegetic sound. . I like the eye level shots that showcase the panic and emotions of some of the characters. Simple and innocent concepts like puppets and tricycles are also morphed into a very terrifying villain that imposes extreme fear into Jigsaw's victims. Lastly, I like how diegetic sound from the traps and surrounding environment. . I dislike the use of the security cameras being used for the perspective, and the high angle shots. The only reason being it would be extremely difficult to replicate for use in my project.

Movie conventions research: Brightburn

Image
The movie uses nondiegetic audio such as horror themes, these are used to create suspense and fear. They make the villain "Brightburn" use a mask to hide his identity and to create more fear out of his victims. Over the shoulder shots are used with the villain to display the victims reactions to the villain attacking/revealing themselves. I liked the use over the should shots since it further emphasized the helplessness that the victims felt. I felt sometimes they used too many of the same camera angels during the movie which kind of made the scenes seem the same or repetitive.

Movie conventions research: Cocaine Bear

Image
The camera angle in the movie appealed to me. They had a great use of camera angle that intensified what was happening in the scene and properly showed the bear as a true threat. The movie uses eye level shots to shot the fear in the characters face and wide shots to show the environment around them and show the size of the bear. The movie also shows the bear at multiple low angle shots to create fear into the audience.  We'll probably end up using the camera angles in the same way as in the movie to show the slasher as an intimidating threat. In some parts the movie creates tension in a compelling way and has an interesting premise. The rest of the movie didn't take itself serious and ruined most moments due to it being a horror/comedy. The overall plot of the story was boring and failed to show the bear as an antagonist that strikes fear into people other than killing a person and occasionally appearing out of nowhere and shocking the characters in the movie and the audience

The final decision

Image
Together as a group we decided to go for horror. We decided this since we all agreed that horror movies are what we know the most about. Mostly all of us watched tons of horror movies with a small mix of other genres. Horror is very easy to replicate but we need it to create enough fear for the movie to be memorable. It was between horror and comedy, but we agreed horror would be much easier and more interesting.

Thriller Genre

Image
The Thriller Genre . Low angle shots, High angle shots, and zoom are use to display emotion and anxiousness in thriller movies. . Props like weapons are used in these movies, the background is usually a town or city . Slowing down and speeding up are edits used in thriller movies to create suspense. . Suspenseful music will be played in these movies. . I like how confusing and sinister some thriller movies can be. . However, I do not like how confusing it is to understand some of these movies.

Comedy Genre

Image
The Comedy Genre . Camera angles are used like wide shots and medium shots to display a comedic reaction. . Clown suits, and airhorns are common mis-en-scene in comedic movies. . They will edit peoples faces or body features to look wonky and out of proportion. . Non-diegetic sounds such as laugh tracks to imply to the audience where to laugh. . I like the fact that comedy movies are intended to be funny, and I like to laugh. . I don't like this genre because it does not really fit too well with our group because we are not very funny.

The Horror Genre

Image
The Horror Genre . Eye level angles are prevalent in horror movies in order to present to the viewer a genuine reaction of fear from the actor. Panning movement is also pretty common. The establishing shot of a horror movie may take place in the past as a place of origin for the killer or haunted area. . Blood is a common prop used in horror movies. Old, outdated, and dirty costumes for a ghost. The background/set is usually a "haunted" place like an abandoned house or mansion. . The editing in horror movies makes chase scenes seem more hectic by switching between the protagonist and the monster chasing him from time to time. . Very loud and sudden noises appear often in the horror movie genre in order to scare the audience. There is also suspenseful and creepy music. . I like how creative some of these movies can get with the origins of the killer and the storytelling put into them. . I don't like the cliche part of horror movies, and there is not a lot that hasn't b

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch A: A person chilling in their house listening to some music and making food, until they spot a person in their backyard. He gets in and tries to kill him, they run to the forest and the guy gets tricked and bleeds out. Pitch B: Two robbers break into a person's house, not knowing that they're a psychopath and plans to brutally murder them. Discuss pitch A: I would be interested in making this film opening because it seems like a simple yet effective opening to a film. This was the first scene that I thought of when I heard we had to make a film opening. I have many ideas on how this scene could go with multiple alternatives. I already know of some places we could film this and how we would go about it. I think this would be a great way to open a horror movie and I would love to film this idea. Discuss pitch B: I would be interested in making this film opening because it would be a interesting and unique way to open to a horror movie. This is a scene that I had put a lit

We reunite once more

Image
The four of us have returned for one final task. Me, Myles, Mario, and Daniel. These are the four people that sit around me and sometimes help me with my work. These are the gentlemen I want to do this project with. I choose to work with them for a variety of reasons. One being I have already worked with them on my music video. We already have communications established with ourselves. We also now know the different qualities each of us have when it comes to our work. I also learned a lot about myself during the past project. For instance, I have a good perception of knowing when a clip is should be used for the final product or not. I unfortunately often suffer with general interpretation as well, and I am often confused on some things within the project. Learning the different qualities about my fellow group members was also an interesting experience. Myles is a good communicator, and that is useful when it comes to interpreting instruction. It also helps when nobody knows what to

By the way this is me

Greetings, I am Jayden Capuano. I am 16 years old, and in the Eleventh Grade. I am a Junior in high school. Looking very forward to graduating and escaping this purgatory. I have received word that I am beginning my final task. This project is the introduction do a movie, which does captivate my interest. I would consider myself to be quite an artistic induvial. In my free time, I like to draw things in my book. This activity unfortunately does extent to when I am in school, and it is a pretty big distraction. I am also used to drawing stuff like trains since as far back as I can remember. I used to live in New York, and I was exposed to a lot of different railroads and the subway. This is probably why I have such a big interest in them. I like to swim and go to the beach from time to time as well. I am also starting to familiarize myself with the surroundings of where I live. This could potentially help me find a nice spot for filming. On the contrast, I am more of an indoors pers
